Boxley trial continues

MARQUETTE -- Wednesday marked the second day of the jury trial for the State of Michigan v. Julie Boxley. Boxley is charged with felony murder and 1st degree arson and is accused of intentionally setting fire to the Ishpeming home of Glenn Andrews on March 3, 2023. Andrews died of injuries which resulted from the fire on March 19, 2023. The case is being presided over by Judge Andrew Griffin.
Prosecution continued to call witnesses on Wednesday, including Susan Andry and Dennis Andrews.
Andry transported Glenn Andrews to U.P. Health System Marquette on March 3 and testified as to his condition and statements he made that day, as well as about Boxley's condition and statements she had made. Prosecuting attorney Jenna Nelson appeared specifically interested in a statement Boxley had made to Andry about Glenn Andrews going back inside for the dogs, as well as a statement Glenn Andrews had made that he had tripped and fallen over a fence on his way out of the house.

Dennis Andrews is Glenn Andrews' son and testified to having met his father and Boxley at Rosie's Dugout in Marquette Township the night before the fire. He also gave testimony about the layout of his father's house and the history of the relationship between Boxley and his father.
Dennis Andrews testified that Boxley had begun providing homecare for his mother, Linda Andrews, some time after Linda Andrews had suffered a stroke and was bedridden. Boxley eventually moved in, and some time later Linda Andrews was relocated to a nursing home. Andrews also testified that it appeared that his father and Boxley were likely in a romantic relationship, and that it appeared as though they slept in the same bedroom.
Both prosecution and defense appeared to be interested in hearing from Dennis Andrews about a gate in a fence which wrapped around Glenn Andrews' back porch and whether that fence was attached or unattached after the fire.
The trial is expected to last multiple weeks.
