MARQUETTE -- A domestic violence complaint led to an arrest at a campsite on Marquette Branch Prison property last Thursday, police report.
According to Capt. Christopher Aldrich of the Marquette Police Department, on Thursday, MPD received a report of a domestic violence incident that had occurred several days earlier at a well-established makeshift campsite on Marquette Branch Prison property in the city of Marquette.
In a written statement, Aldrich said the suspect was identified as 34-year-old Drummond Smithson, who has resided in multiple states and locations with the most recent being in the Marquette area.
On Friday, MPD officers, assisted by the Michigan State Police and Michigan Department of Corrections, located Smithson at his campsite and arrested him without incident.
Smithson was lodged at the Marquette County Jail on the following charges:
• Domestic violence, a 93-day misdemeanor.
• Trespass – state correctional facility, 4-year felony.
It was unclear when Smithson would next appear in court.
