MARQUETTE -- The Northern Michigan University hockey team is gearing up to celebrate 50 years of NMU hockey, featuring special events running from July 30 through Aug. 1.
“We are looking forward to welcoming our amazing alumni back to campus for our 50th Anniversary Celebration,” said assistant coach Phil Fox. Fox, a Wildcat hockey alumnus, played collegiate hockey for NMU from 2007-2011, and was captain in 2011.
“We have an outstanding lineup of special events planned for the weekend and a fantastic group of former players set to be back in town for the celebration," said Fox. "It’s going to be a memorable weekend for our hockey family, fans and the entire local community.”
The weekend starts with the anniversary kickoff from 5-7 p.m. on July 30 at Blackrocks Brewery. NMU alumni and Wildcat hockey fans are invited to join NMU hockey coaches, staff and former players in kicking off the 50th anniversary of Wildcat Hockey celebration and Wildcat hockey weekend at Blackrocks Brewery. Texas Roadhouse will be providing snacks.
July 31 will feature two events, starting with an open house at the Berry Events Center. Running from 3:00 to 5:00 P.M., coaches will tour alumni and fans through their facilities at the Berry Events Center. Additionally, the Wildcat Green and Gold Shop on the Berry Events Center concourse will be open for fans to purchase Wildcat gear.
Friday concludes with a welcome back reception, taking place from 7:30 to 9:30 p.m. on the second floor of Ore Dock Brewing. Attendees will help welcome back former Wildcat hockey players and team staff at a public reception at the Ore Dock Brewery.
These events are all free to the public, but an RSVP is requested for planning purposes. RSVPs can be made at tickets.nmu.edu.
The weekend concludes with the Wildcat hockey alumni golf outing on Aug. 1, at the NMU golf course. Public foursomes (cost $240 per team) are welcome to join former NMU players, coaches and staff in participating.
Golf registration at the NMU golf course will begin at 9 a.m. with a start time at 10 a.m., followed by awards and prizes at 4 p.m. Pre-registration and payment is required.
All proceeds go toward supporting NMU hockey. For more information, contact Fox at pfox@nmu.edu.
