Motorcycle-vehicle crash claims one life
SKANDIA — Personnel from the Marquette County Sheriff’s Office are investigating the cause of a two-vehicle crash that took place Sunday afternoon.
According to a sheriff’s office press release, a pick-up truck was traveling west on M-94 in Skandia Township when it collided with a motorcycle, which was southbound on US 41. The incident took place at about 1:40 p.m. Sunday.
The adult male driver of the motorcycle sustained serious but not life-threatening injuries, deputies said. He was transported to Upper Peninsula Health System-Marquette for treatment. The female passenger of the motorcycle was pronounced dead at the scene, despite life-saving measures which were employed.
Sheriff’s deputies said the occupants of the pick-up truck were not injured in the crash. The names of those involved were not immediately released.
The investigation continues.
Assisting the sheriff’s office at the scene were Michigan State Police, Michigan Department of Natural Resources law division personnel, UP Health System EMS, Skandia Township Fire and EMS, Heavy Hooker Towing, Marquette Detailing Towing and the Michigan Department of Natural Resources.
