Marquette Township adopts new 2026-2030 Master Plan

MARQUETTE — Marquette Charter Township officials have announced the adoption of an updated 2026-2030 Master Plan, a long-range policy document intended to guide future land use, housing, recreation, transportation, infrastructure, economic development and community service decisions over the next several years.

The Master Plan update was funded in part by a $50,000 Housing Readiness Grant from the Michigan State Housing Development Authority, which allowed the township to retain the national planning firm SEH, Inc. to assist with the planning process, public engagement, data analysis, mapping and preparation of the final document.

It establishes a policy framework to help guide future zoning amendments, capital improvements, grant applications, development review and long-term community investment. The Plan is intended to help the township respond to growth pressures while maintaining the qualities that residents value most about Marquette Township.

While housing availability and affordability were a central focus of the update, the planning process also identified several other important community priorities. Overall, public input showed strong interest in expanding housing options, improving rental housing availability, supporting thoughtful growth, preserving the Township’s natural character, maintaining infrastructure and developing additional recreational opportunities, including parks, trails, family-oriented amenities and year-round recreational facilities.

The Planning Commission, Master Plan Steering Committee, community stakeholders, residents, business owners, event participants and survey respondents who contributed their time, ideas, and local knowledge throughout the process were credited with playing key roles in development of the plan. Their participation was essential in shaping a plan that reflects the township’s current needs and future goals, officials said.
