MARQUETTE — At Monday night’s Marquette County Commission meeting, Marquette Fire Chief Ian Davis presented the cardiac lifesaving Award to Relief Engineer Brandon Morey and firefighter Jake Phillips.

“On Oct. 19 of last year, Brandon and Jake responded to a medical call that initially came in as a fall,” said Davis. “They demonstrated great situational awareness and initiative by upgrading their response to a priority code after identifying information that suggested it was a cardiac emergency.

“Upon arrival, they confirmed that the patient was in cardiac arrest and initiated advanced cardiac life support procedures in coordination with the UPHS ambulance crew. They played an integral role in defibrillation, airway management, vascular access, medication administration and patient monitoring.

“Through these decisive actions, their clinical competence and their composure under pressure, they were instrumental in Miss Snyder achieving spontaneous circulation within minutes and eventually being discharged from the hospital with a positive outcome.

“Their efforts exemplify the highest standards of the Marquette City Fire Department. Congratulations to you both.”

Morey and Phillips each received a medal, which were pinned by Battalion Chief Kirk Vogler. Snyder was also present at the commission meeting.
