MARQUETTE -- As July draws to a close, the Marquette County Fair is on the horizon, with this year's event being held from Aug. 13-15.

"The Marquette County Fair has been a family tradition for 36 years," said Walt Maki, President of the Marquette County Fair. "We offer local vendors, several barns full of animals, horse shows, an antique car show, three rings of free entertainment, live local bands, (and) still exhibits of canning, flowers, vegetables, sewing, knitting, crafts, antiques and photography."

At noon on Saturday, the youth livestock auction will be held.

"Once again, Double Trouble will be here with their inflatables for the kids, and we are bringing back the carnival games again this year," Maki said. "The ever popular Jimmy The Bubble guy will be on the corner again."

In new entertainment this year will be agri-golf, which combines mini golf and agriculture, with games and prizes.

"We also have a new acrobat show, featuring high-flying fun," he said. "We have some new food vendors along with several of your favorites. (The fair is) a great time to meet neighbors and friends you may not have seen in a while. (It's) good old-fashioned entertainment, like we all remember. Everyone loves fair food. If your favorite is the chicken, French fries, brisket, deep fried onion, doughnuts, or ice cream treats, we have it all.  Come for lunch and stay through dinner."

The fairgrounds are full wheelchair accessible, and the fair will be open from 10 a.m. to 10 p.m. all three nights. The Fun Zone opens at noon each day. Thursday will be Military appreciation and Senior day, when admission will only be $4 for those groups.

The Marquette County Fairgrounds are located at 715 M-553 in Gwinn.
