Luce County Sheriff’s Office investigates fatal homicide

NEWBERRY -- At approximately 7:15 p.m. on Sunday, deputies from the Luce County Sheriff's Office responded to a call in the 300 block of East John Street in Newberry regarding a reported stabbing.

Upon arrival, deputies made contact with a 47-year-old male victim who had been physically assaulted by a 21-year-old male suspect. A second victim, a 40-year-old male, was located in the yard of the residence suffering from multiple stab wounds.

Despite emergency efforts, the 40-year-old victim was pronounced deceased at the scene. The 47-year-old victim was transported to a local hospital, where he was treated for non-life-threatening injuries.

The 21-year-old suspect, who is accused of assaulting both individuals, remained at the scene and was taken into custody without further incident. All parties involved are residents of Newberry.

The investigation remains active and ongoing. Further details, including the identities of those involved, will be withheld pending family notification and formal arraignment.
