ISHPEMING -- The Ishpeming Carnegie Public Library has announced that it is a recipient of a $1,200 grant from the Molina Health Care of Michigan grant program on behalf of Molina Health Care of Michigan and the Superiorland Library Cooperative.
Grant funding is being used to offer group health and exercise classes for adults at the library to promote wellness and combat loneliness and isolation. The ICPL will offer these classes to the community at no cost to attendees. The library has partnered with Aurora Fitness and Yoga in Ishpeming and BeWell Marquette to bring certified instructors to the library to teach Zumba, Pilates, Tai Chi Qigong and dance exercise. Additionally, certified yoga Instructor, Kristen Carlson will be continuing to offer chair yoga classes.
Classes are being offered for adults throughout the summer during the library's summer reading programming lineup. Beginners and newcomers are always welcome to join, and all classes are free and open to the public. All classes are held at the Ishpeming Carnegie Public Library.
At 4 p.m. on Tuesday, July 28, Aug. 11 and Aug. 25, there will be Pilates mix classes with Amber from BeWell Marquette.
Tai Chi Qigong with Dr. Traci Baxendale Ball will be held at 1 p.m. on Wednesday, Aug. 12.
At 11 a.m. on Friday, July 31 and Friday, Aug. 14, Kristen Carlson will be at the library to lead attendees in sessions of chair yoga. Dr. Ball will be back to teach a session of dance exercise at 1 p.m. on Wednesday, Sept. 9.
"(The) ICPL is honored to have been selected for this grant that allows us to bring so many new classes to the library," said librarian Nicole Johnson in a news release. "Group wellness classes bring people together and foster a strong sense of community, which is especially needed in our rural area."
