Guts Frisbee celebrates 50 years of the U.S. National Guts Frisbee Tournament

MARQUETTE -- The Marquette Guts Frisbee Association has announced the 50th anniversary of the U.S National Guts Frisbee Tournament will be held in Marquette at Tourist Park Aug. 1-2.
Guts is a high-speed game of catch between two teams of five competitors standing 14 meters apart. Players throw a variety of whistling fast Frisbee shots at the defensive team whose goal is to catch the Frisbee using only one hand to make a catch.
The sport was created in Eagle Harbor in the Copper Country and has been played for 68 years. Frisbee throw speeds often exceed 85 mph.
Twenty teams from across the United States will battle for the Craig "Buck" Buchanan Memorial Trophy. Saturday features round robin play and bracket play while Sunday will be the tournament elimination round games with the Tournament Finals starting at 5 p.m.
On site food will be provided by Togo’s of Marquette and the Island food truck. U.S. National Guts Frisbee Tournament merchandise will also be available for purchase.
Admission to the tournament is free for spectators and carry-ins are welcome. The tournament will run from 10 a.m.-7 p.m. both Saturday and Sunday.
