NEGAUNEE — Situated at 442 Iron St. near Jackson Mine Park and the Iron Ore Heritage Trail in Negaunee, The Cone on Iron Street has long been a favorite gathering place for residents, visitors, trail users and families throughout the community. The business is now owned and operated by residents Michael and Kelsi Kinnunen, who recently purchased the shop and are excited to continue its tradition of serving sweet treats and creating lasting memories.

The ribbon-cutting ceremony brought together community members, local business leaders, and supporters to welcome the Kinnunens as small-business owners and to celebrate their investment in the community.

“Owning a small business has been a dream of ours for a long time,” said Michael Kinnunen. “When the opportunity to purchase The Cone came along, we knew we had to take it. We’re honored to carry on a business that means so much to the community, and we’re excited to put our own little touch on a place where families, friends, visitors and trail users can gather, connect, and make memories together.”

The Cone on Iron Street offers hand-scooped ice cream, shakes, malts, sundaes, pup cups and other seasonal favorites. The shop also provides dairy-free, gluten-free and no-sugar-added options to accommodate a variety of customer preferences.

To celebrate the new ownership, The Cone on Iron Street offered special promotions during its grand opening week and welcomed visitors to experience the shop’s family-friendly atmosphere.

“We are incredibly grateful for the support we’ve received from the community since opening our doors,” said Kelsi Kinnunen. “The response has been amazing, and we look forward to serving Negaunee and visitors to the area for many years to come.”
