Newberry woman arrested for home invasion
NEWBERRY — A 35-year-old Newberry woman has been arrested and charged with unlawfully entering a home in Newberry and stealing property from within the residence.
Gina Briggs was taken into custody by Michigan State Police troopers from the Sault Ste. Marie post after an incident on John Street earlier this week, according to an MSP news release.
At approximately 5:30 p.m. Wednesday, troopers were dispatched to a report of a subject who had allegedly entered a residence on John Street in Newberry without permission and stole items from inside the home. As a result of the investigation, troopers identified the suspect as Briggs. She was subsequently located by troopers and the stolen property recovered. Briggs was arrested and lodged in the Luce County Jail in Newberry, police said.
On Friday, Briggs was arraigned in the 92nd District Court in Newberry on charges of home invasion second degree. She was granted a personal recognizance bond, with tether and other standard conditions.
Her next court date is scheduled for June 18.
