Ishpeming schools close Monday due to smoke in HVAC units
ISHPEMING — The Ishpeming Public School District issued a press release Monday regarding the closure of the middle and high schools.
“This morning, we closed the building out of an abundance of caution after a small amount of smoke was detected in the commons area,” the release states. “After a thorough investigation, we determined that the source was an overheated motor in one of our rooftop HVAC units. There was no fire, and at no time was anyone in danger.
“The issue has been identified and is being addressed. We appreciate the quick response of our maintenance team and local emergency personnel in helping (to) ensure that the building was safe for students and staff.”
The release stated that the Ishpeming Middle and High Schools would reopen today and operate on a normal schedule.
