No injuries reported in structure fire at Canda Manor Apartments

ISHPEMING – At 4:03 a.m. on Monday, the Ishpeming Fire Department was called out for a structure fire at the Canda Manor Apartments, located at 703 W. Empire St., in Ishpeming. Upon arrival, light smoke was showing from the third floor. Two firefighters made entry and performed a primary search. Fire was found in a bathroom wall and quickly extinguished.

All residents were able to get out safely. Firefighters were on scene for nearly two hours performing overhaul and checking for fire extension. There was extensive water damage to the 2 units directly below the fire. A water pipe was later found that had burst before or during the fire. There were no reported injuries and the last unit cleared the scene around 6:30 a.m.

The Ishpeming Fire Department was assisted by the Ishpeming Township Fire Department, Marquette County Rescue 131, UP Health Systems West, the Ishpeming Police Department and Marquette County Central Dispatch. The Pigs-n-heat fire relief fund will be helping any residents displaced by the fire.

The cause of the fire is unknown at this time.
