MARQUETTE — From 12:30-2 p.m. on April 18, The David and Thu Brule YMCA in Marquette will be hosting the annual Healthy Kids Day event, featuring activity and education.

“Healthy Kids Day is a national YMCA event that promotes health and wellness for children and families in our community,” said David and Thu Brule YMCA Youth and Wellness Director Carrigan Bastian. “The event connects participants with resources and organizations that support keeping minds and bodies active throughout the summer months. The YMCA has been celebrating Healthy Kids Day for over 30 years, and our local Y looks forward to continuing this tradition each year.”

This year’s Healthy Kids Day will be bigger than ever, since the new field house opened last fall.

“With the completion of our new field house, we’re excited to expand this year’s event,” said Bastian. “Local organizations will be set up in our gymnasium, along with a bouncy house for families to enjoy. Our field house will feature pickleball, interactive games, and a variety of activities designed to keep kids moving and engaged.”

“In addition to vendor-led activities, families can enjoy a wide range of fun and engaging experiences, including an introduction to pickleball with a coach, a bouncy house, face painting, family Zumba class, and games and activities throughout the field house.

The goal of Healthy Kids Day is to promote the maintenance of a healthy lifestyle for children and families.

“Promoting a healthy lifestyle at a young age helps children build strong habits that can last a lifetime,” said Bastian. “It supports their physical health, mental well-being and social development. Events like Healthy Kids Day encourage kids to stay active, try new activities and learn that taking care of their health can be fun and rewarding.”

Healthy Kids Day is free to anyone in the community, regardless of whether or not they have a membership at the YMCA.

“We encourage all families to come out and join the fun,” said Bastian. “Healthy Kids Day is a great opportunity for families to connect with local organizations, discover new activities, and kick off a fun and active summer together. We’re especially excited to showcase our new field house this year and provide even more space for the community to come together.”
