OSCEOLA TOWNSHIP – An hours-long standoff between an alleged gunman and law enforcement from throughout the Upper Peninsula resulted in the arrest of an individual at a home in Osceola Township near the community of Dollar Bay.

Houghton County Sheriff Josh Saaranen told the Daily Mining Gazette Friday morning the situation involved an individual barricaded in a residence on the property.

“The individual was arrested without incident,” Saaranen said. “No one was injured and there is no threat to the public.”

In dispelling social media posts, Saaranen said the incident was not a hostage situation as far as he was aware as of 10:30 Friday morning.

The Houghton County Sheriff’s Department was assisted by Michigan State Police from various posts across the Upper Peninsula, including an Emergency Support Team.

The incident is under investigation.
