Fatal snowmobile crash in Chocolay Township

MARQUETTE — At approximately 1:30 p.m. on Friday, the Chocolay Township Police were called to a snowmobile accident on trail 417 about one mile from the Alger County Line.

Officers arrived near the scene and were transported to the scene by several snowmobilers. When they arrived, CPR was in progress for a 44-year-old woman. Officers began CPR and continued until members of the Chocolay Fire Department arrived on scene to assist.

The woman was transported to an Upper Peninsula Health System Marquette ambulance. Lifesaving measures were continued for some time, but the woman succumbed to her injuries.

Chocolay Township Police, Marquette County Sheriff Special Operations and the Michigan Department of Natural Resources conducted an investigation into the accident, which is still ongoing. They believe that the woman hit a dip in the trail, causing her and her sled to leave the trail.
