Delta County woman arrested after biting state trooper during animal neglect investigation

CORNELL — A woman from the Cornell area has been arrested and arraigned on multiple felony counts related to resisting, obstructing, and assaulting a police officer.

On Tuesday, the Michigan State Police Gladstone post received a report alleging animal neglect involving multiple individuals. Following an initial investigation, a search warrant was obtained seeking further evidence at a location on County Road 426 in Cornell Township.

On Wednesday, troopers completed a search warrant at the location. Several deceased animals including cats, rabbits, pigs and goats were found at the site. There were also many live animals found in a malnourished and unhealthy condition, including 14 cats, 12 rabbits, and a sheep. These animals were seized and removed from the property.

“While attempting to complete their investigation, a woman on scene began resisting/obstructing the troopers and refused to follow lawful orders being given to her,” said a statement from the Michigan State Police.

The woman proceeded to bite one of the troopers on the wrist. She continued to fight with the troopers after being informed she was under arrest, including an attempt to bite a second officer. She was safely taken into custody and was lodged at the Delta County Jail.

On Thursday, 22-year-old Brianna Makosky was arraigned in the 94th District Court on three felony counts of resisting/obstructing/ assault on a police officer. Her bond was set at $4,000 cash/surety and she is next due in court on Feb. 19.

The animal neglect investigation remains ongoing and will be submitted to the Delta County Prosecutor for review once the investigation is complete. Michigan State Police was assisted by the Delta Animal Shelter.
