Community responds to the ongoing search for Trenton Massey

MASSEY

MARQUETTE — The search for 21-year-old Northern Michigan University Student Trenton Massey remains ongoing; a statement from the Marquette City Police released Tuesday evening stated that “search efforts continued on Tuesday for Trenton Massey in the Founder’s Landing area. Those efforts will resume again on Wednesday at 9 a.m. by law enforcement. The focus will remain on the water of the lower harbor near Founder’s Landing. Searchers with specialized equipment and training will continue to be used.”

Land-based searching also continued, with volunteers meeting at the Hampton Inn on Lakeshore Boulevard to receive directions before heading out.

The outpouring of support from the Marquette community in the face of Massey’s disappearance has been immense; hundreds of volunteers have helped with the search, and a GoFundMe campaign for Massey’s family has garnered over $40,000 in donations for help with travel accommodations and meals.

Massey’s hometown in Corunna, Michigan, has organized a candlelit vigil for Massey on Thursday night at Corunna High School, which Massey attended.

Assisting with the search efforts on Tuesday were the Marquette County Sheriff’s Office,

Michigan State Police, Northern Michigan University Police Department, US Coast Guard

Station Marquette, Michigan DNR Conservation Officers, US Army, No One Left Behind K9

Search and Rescue and Northern Michigan University, as well as numerous businesses and volunteers.
