Negaunee’s annual Heikki Lunta Winter Festival will bring a full slate of events from Friday, Feb. 6 through Sunday, Feb. 8.
For this year’s festivities, the Negaunee Downtown Development Authority is partnering with the Meijer Winter Games.
“Anyone looking to get out and enjoy some winter activities, Heikki Lunta has much to offer,” said Negaunee City Manager Nate Heffron. “Whether you like to engage in outdoor activities or just be a spectator, Heikki Lunta helps fight cabin fever.”
Heffron said that the first step to enjoying Heikki Lunta is to dress appropriately for the outdoor festivities.

“Highlights for the weekend include the opening ceremonies of the Meijer State Winter Games and the Irontown Rail Jam,” he said. “Saturday morning includes the South Shore Fishing Association’s Teal Lake ice fishing derby, more fun downtown with family day, ending with fireworks on the west end of Iron Street. Sunday wraps up the festival with UPCross’s Freeze Yer Fanny fat bike race, and (also a) pasty eating contest.”
Heffron said the best way to stay up-to-date with Heikki Lunta happenings is by checking the Negaunee DDA Facebook page or visiting negauneedda.com.
“Be sure to stay hydrated by enjoying our social district (only if you’re of legal age) and stop down to any of our many eateries throughout the community,” he said. “Many of our bars and social clubs will also be offering live music.”
