ISHPEMING – The Ishpeming Carnegie Public Library has announced that its Winter Reading Challenge began on Thursday and will run until the end of February.
ICPL’s Winter Reading Challenge is open to all ages — babies through adults are
welcome to participate in the event.
People of all ages are invited to participate by logging their reading and/or submitting book reviews. Individuals can use Beanstack to track their reading online by downloading the Beanstack app or visiting ishpeminglibrary.beanstack.org. Additionally, participants may use paper reading logs or review slips and return them to the library.
Participants who log reading or submit reviews during the Winter Reading Challenge will be eligible to win prizes. Additionally, the library is celebrating two years of its puzzle library, which is a spot in the library where people can donate a puzzle and exchange it with a new-to-you puzzle for free. Throughout January and February, you can log each puzzle that you complete as an entry to win a puzzle board. Completing your own puzzles or puzzles from our library count towards entries.
In addition to the reading and puzzle challenges, the library has a diverse lineup of
programs happening throughout January and February. The library’s Tot Tuesday Storytime will take place at 11 a.m. every Tuesday throughout the reading challenge.
“This is a fun time for families with young children to gather together and enjoy stories, crafts and playtime,” said Nicole Johnson, librarian at ICPL, in the news release.
From 4-6 p.m. on Thursday, the Drop-In and Draw Club will meet to sketch and paint watercolor bookmarks. This event is free and open to tweens, teens and adults.
The ICPL’s LEGO Club for kids and teens will meet at 4:30 p.m. on Thursday, Jan. 22 and newcomers are always welcome to participate in all the LEGO challenge
events.
At noon on Saturday, Jan. 31, the Silent Book Club will meet at Velodrome Coffee in Ishpeming. This is a time for bookworms to gather together and read silently, followed by time socializing about books.
At 5:30 p.m. on Wednesday, Feb. 4, Jack Deo will be at the library to give another one of his famous local history presentations on recently discovered local maritime photos.
At 6 p.m. on Thursday, Feb. 12, thriller author and first female sportscaster in Wisconsin, Jessie Garcia will be at the library to feature her new book release titled “The Fair Weather Friend.” Snowbound Books will also be at the library selling copies of Garcia’s books.
These are just some of the events happening at the library in the months of January and February. A full listing is available at ishpeminglibrary.info.
