Fire kills man in Gogebic County
WAKEFIELD — Emergency crews were unable to save the life of a Wakefield Township man early Tuesday morning when a fire damaged a home on Kronberg Road.
According to a press release from the Gogebic County Sheriff’s Department, emergency workers were dispatched to the Kronberg Road site at 5:26 a.m. Tuesday and found one person outside the home. That individual, who officials have not identified, related that a second person was present inside the home and provided a general location for the person.
Attempts were made at that time to find the second person but crews were driven back by smoke and flames. Firefighters, equipped with special breathing gear, reentered the home and located the second person in a bedroom. The individual, however, was pronounced dead at the scene. The victim’s identity has not been released.
The sheriff’s department was assisted at the scene by the Wakefield City Fire Department, the Bessemer Township Fire Department, Beacon Ambulance and the Gogebic County Victim Services Unit.
