None of the injuries reported were considered serious. The Escanaba High School basketball teams were headed home after playing Marquette when the bus lost control due to icy road conditions.
David Pepin of Rock was the first on the scene of the accident. He helped get the passengers out of the bus and to safety.
“I was just driving by with my family from dinner in Marquette,” Pepin said. “It is a privilege to be able to help get those kids out safely and know that they are all home safe with their families. I am not a hero, I’m just a dad myself — I just did what I would hope and pray anyone would do to help my kids in a similar emergency situation.”
Escanaba schools were closed Wednesday due to icy conditions.
