MARQUETTE – Mother Nature is certainly making her presence known in Superiorland this winter.

On Sunday night into Monday, Champion recorded a total of 5.5 inches of snowfall, according to the National Weather Service website. Negaunee recorded 5.2 inches, while one location in Harvey recorded 7.4 inches.

There was a swath of closures in the area due to the storm, including Gwinn, Ishpeming, Marquette, NICE, Munising and Negaunee schools and more.

The NWS reported that a light wintry mix could bring a light glaze of ice along the state line Monday night into today.

“A light wintry mix event could impact the U.P. through Tuesday,” the statement reads. “Freezing rain accumulations generally a light glaze to 0.05 inches, but locally up to 0.1 inch cannot be ruled out (around 20 percent chance along the state line).”

However, it does look like we may get a break from the cold in the coming days, as today’s high temperature in Marquette is expected to reach 35 degrees. Wednesday’s high is anticipated to be 36 degrees, and Thursday’s high will reach 39 degrees.
