Wisconsin man dies in snomo crash
IRONWOOD — At about 10:31 a.m. Sunday, troopers from the Michigan State Police Wakefield Post and deputies from the Gogebic County Sheriff’s Office responded to a report of a snowmobile crash on Trail 2 in Bessemer Township.
The preliminary investigation found the snowmobile was traveling eastbound on Trail 2 when the driver left the trail, lost control of the snowmobile and struck a wooden post. Emergency medical care was administered on scene, but efforts were unsuccessful. The driver of the snowmobile, a 61-year-old man from Luxemburg, Wisconsin, died as a result of the injuries sustained in the crash. Drugs or alcohol do not appear to have contributed to the crash.
“Our hearts go out to the family and loved ones affected by this loss,” Lt. Ben Eckola, MSP Eighth District public information officer, said in a press release.
MSP was assisted by the Gogebic County Sheriff’s Office, Michigan Department of Natural Resources, Beacon Ambulance, Bessemer Township Fire Department and Gogebic County Victim’s Services.
