Warming centers available to locals affected by power outages
MARQUETTE — Local warming centers have been opened for those affected by the power outages caused by this week’s blizzard. The warming centers are set up to offer a place to charge devices for those who may not have the ability to do so at home.
Warming center locations are as follows:
– Peter White Public Library, 217 N. Front St. in Marquette
– Marquette City Hall, 300 W. Baraga Ave. in Marquette
– Sands Township Complex, 987 S. M-553 (Current listed hours are 9-5 Tuesday, 10-3 Wednesday; call the complex for additional hours)
– Skandia Township Hall, 224 Krieger Dr.
– KBIC Harvey Casino, 105 Acre Trail
The American Red Cross has established two overnight shelters for people to sleep at. They are:
– Chocolay Township Fire Hall, 2010 U.S. 41; no pets allowed; bring your own linens and medications. Limited showers are available; bring your own towels and toiletries.
– Marquette City Hall, 300 W. Baraga Ave.; no pets allowed.
