Traffic crash in Masonville Township kills Munising man
ESCANABA — A two-vehicle crash at the intersection of 24th Road and Delta County 511 W.5 Road in Masonville Township Monday claimed the life of a Munising man and injured a second person, although not seriously, police said.
The incident took place at about 3:55 p.m. Monday, according to the Michigan State Police, the agency that handled the investigation. The preliminary investigation revealed that a commercial delivery truck had stopped at the intersection of 24th Road and Co. 511 W.5 Road and then attempted to proceed through the intersection to continue eastbound on 24th Road. As the delivery truck entered the intersection, the crash occurred with a pickup truck which had been traveling southbound on Co. 511 W.5 Road, according to MSP.
The driver of the southbound vehicle, a 51-year-old man from Munising, sustained fatal injuries from the crash, MSP said. The driver of the delivery vehicle, a Seney resident, 29, sustained minor injuries and was treated at OSF St. Francis Hospital in Escanaba.
There were no other passengers in either vehicle. The investigation remains ongoing.
State polce officers were assisted by personnel from the Delta County Sheriff’s Office, Ensign and Masonville Township fire departments, Rampart EMS and Pro Towing.
