MACKINAC ISLAND – Mackinac Island has been voted the “Best Place to Visit for Fall” in a USA TODAY 10Best Reader’s Choice poll. The award coincides with the island’s reimagined Fall Fudge Festival, taking place now through Saturday, offering visitors the opportunity to savor the world-famous confection alongside vibrant fall foliage, crisp lake breezes, and the timeless charm of the island.

“Fall on Mackinac Island is a remarkable experience from the tranquil atmosphere to the brilliant fall colors and we are incredibly honored to receive this recognition from the USA TODAY 10Best readers,” said Tim Hygh, executive director of the Mackinac Island Tourism Bureau, in a news release. “By shifting the festival to October, we’re inviting visitors to come experience fudge-making during one of the most beautiful times of year. So whether you’re a fudge aficionado or simply looking for a charming fall getaway, this weekend will be sure to delight.”

The USA TODAY 10Best award is a testament to the island’s captivating autumn season which offers visitors a slower, more relaxed pace, numerous ways to experience the fantastic fall colors, and a unique, car-free environment. Mackinac Island has placed highly in these reader-driven awards in the past, recently earning the No. 1 “Best Summer Travel Destination” for the third consecutive year. These accolades solidify Mackinac Island’s reputation as a premier destination not just for summer, but also for a magical fall getaway.

The first-ever Fall Fudge Festival runs from Oct. 2-4. The festival, which historically has taken place in August, will blend the island’s iconic fudge with fall-themed festivities sure to delight the biggest fall and fudge fanatics.

The Mackinac Island 2025 Fudge Naming Contest has also returned by popular demand this year. After weeks of collecting submissions from the public, “Mackinac Magic” was selected as the winner from the top 20 names. During the festival, select shops will offer their unique rendition of Mackinac Magic for purchase for a limited time.
