MPD warns of growing Medicare fraud

MARQUETTE– The Marquette Police Department put out a public warning alerting residents of a growing local trend in Medicare fraud.

“The Marquette Police Department would like to make residents aware of an uptick in reported Medicare fraud incidents locally,” said Marquette Police in a public release. “Medicare beneficiaries have reported fraudulent billing for durable medical equipment they never requested, received or needed.”

Marquette police also said that Medicare beneficiaries should closely examine their Medicare Summary Notices for inconsistencies and report any suspicious activity to 1-800-MEDICARE (1-800-633-4227) or online at Medicare.gov (Reporting Medicare fraud & abuse).

“The Marquette Senior Center is available to assist local Medicare beneficiaries with correcting potential fraud issues,” said Marquette police. “The Marquette Senior Center can be reached at (906) 228-0456.”
