Library gives new names to long-loved winter art favorites

MARQUETTE — The Peter White Public Library is giving a new name to a beloved tradition this upcoming holiday season: Winter Solstice Art and Evergreen.

The new Evergreen event replaces what was previously known as the Winter Wonderland Walk. Winter-themed art exhibits will be on display in the Deo and Huron Mountain Club Galleries, along with themed trees decorated by community members throughout the library. Tree registration is now open, and space is limited. Those interested may register their tree online at pwpl.info or by calling Marty Achatz at 906-226-4322. The deadline to register for a tree is Nov. 7, and tree decoration must be completed by Dec. 5.

The library will also be hosting the art exhibit Pierce Holiday Village sponsored by the Lake Superior Art Association, replacing what was previously known as Winter Charm. All members of the community are invited to submit a winter-themed piece of art for display in the exhibit. Artists may enter one piece of original artwork, and all two-dimensional artwork must be gallery-hanging ready. Three dimensional art pieces will also be accepted. Artists are not allowed to submit artwork created with artificial intelligence and no late entries will be accepted. Intake forms are available online at lakesuperiorartassociation.org, or physical forms are available at the library’s Circulation Desk. Artwork submissions will be accepted at the library, which is located at 217 N. Front St., from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Nov. 29. Art must be picked up from the library between 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. on January 31, 2026.

The PWPL will be hosting an Evening of Art and Evergreen artist reception from 6 to 8 p.m. on December 11 with refreshments, decorated community trees, a scavenger hunt and the holiday village. Winter Solstice Art and Evergreen is sponsored by the Lake Superior Art Association and Friends of the Peter White Public Library.
