UPCAP to host caregivers retreat
CRYSTAL FALLS — The Upper Peninsula Commission for Area Progress is set to host a caregivers retreat from 10 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. (CT) on Saturday, Sept. 27 at Fortune Lake Camp, 138 Fortune Lake Camp Road in Crystal Falls.
This event is designed to provide rest and rejuvenation for non-professional family caregivers from the Upper Peninsula. The day will include structured activities such as a nature hike and yoga. Other activities include a caregiver support group meeting, time at the waterfront, and creating a nibble board will also be offered. In addition, participants will be offered a chair massage from a professional massage therapist.
Activities will be led by registered dietitian and certified yoga instructor Pam Roose from Inspiring Roots and assisted by Della Juliano, health and caregiver educator from UPCAP.
This caregivers retreat will provide the opportunity for family caregivers to rest, relax and share their caregiving experiences with others who have similar circumstances. Taking time off from caregiving to rest and rejuvenate is a necessity for caregivers to decrease stress and increase good health and well-being.
Harvardhealth.edu states that “taking a break can help you restore a sense of who you are, and allow you to bring your ‘best self’ back to your role as a caregiver.”
The cost for the event is $30 (non-refundable) and includes lunch and a chair massage.
