LaLonde running for state rep

Dana LaLonde

NEGAUNEE — Dana LaLonde, a longtime community leader and Marquette County commissioner, has officially announced her candidacy for the Michigan House of Representatives in District 109 as a Democrat.

LaLonde, of Negaunee, who first came to the Upper Peninsula to attend Northern Michigan University more than 35 years ago, has held leadership roles in the United Auto Workers locals 2178 and 1950, advocated for libraries and workforce development initiatives and serves on several boards representing Marquette County.

“As a mother, union supporter, and commissioner, I know firsthand the struggles families face in the U.P., from finding affordable housing and childcare to accessing healthcare and jobs with fair wages,” LaLonde said in a written statement. “I’m running to make sure Lansing never forgets about the Upper Peninsula. This is our home, and I’ll always put the people of the U.P. first.”

In a press release, LaLonde said her campaign will focus on:

• Fighting for working families: Ensuring every job is a good job with livable wages and strong • benefits.

• Protecting health care access: Expanding affordable, accessible healthcare for rural communities.

• Investing in education and libraries: Supporting lifelong learning, workforce training, and public libraries.

• Strengthening the Upper Peninsula economy: Building opportunities that keep young people in the region.

“The U.P. deserves a strong, independent voice in Lansing, someone who knows what it means to shovel snow, balance a family budget, and fight for neighbors,” she said in a written statement. “I’m ready to bring our values to the state house.”
