City announces annual art award recipients, October reception forthcoming
MARQUETTE — The City of Marquette Office of Arts & Culture announced recipients for the 28th Annual Art Awards last Friday.
Each year, the awards go to individuals and organizations in the city who have made a significant impact and generous contributions to the arts and culture community.
Jacqueline Wagner, an art teacher with Cherry Creek and Sandy Knoll elementary schools, is the recipient of this year’s Arts Educator award. Wagner, who also serves as a member of the city’s Public Art Commission, attributes community connection and collaboration to making the art community in Marquette thrive.
“Being part of the Marquette creative community means belonging to a circle of people who believe deeply in the power of the arts to connect, inspire, and transform. As an art educator, I feel grateful to contribute to a community where creativity is not only valued but woven into the fabric of daily life–whether through our schools, galleries, public spaces, or the collaborations that spark between us,” wrote Wagner. “What makes Marquette so special is the way artists, educators, and community members come together to celebrate imagination and support one another’s growth. I am honored to be part of a community that nurtures creativity in every age and stage, and I look forward to continuing to grow alongside it.”

From music and visual art to poetry and beyond, creativity thrives in many forms,” he said. “At Public Radio 90, I’m fortunate to share and support the voices of local creatives. Arts and culture enrich our community by inspiring others, strengthening causes, and boosting our local economy. Whether through a song, a painting, or a poem, these expressions connect us all and contribute to the betterment of society.”
