Special council meeting seeking public input on land purchase in Ishpeming
ISHPEMING — The city will be holding a special council meeting to take input from the public on a potential land purchase.
The possible purchase covers 1,107 acres from Cleveland-Cliffs. The city has been in closed session negotiations with CCI over the past month and has negotiated a price of $239,753 ($216.58 per acre) for the land. A key property included in the sale is the U.P. Nordic Ski Complex’s “suicide bowl,” which the city is currently leasing from CCI through 2048. The current lease can be terminated at any point by CCI with six month notice.
Area residents can attend the special council meeting at 6 p.m. on Tuesday, located in the council chambers at 100 East Division Street, to share their opinion on the potential purchase.
