MARQUETTE – At the Northern Michigan University Fall Convocation, a small briefing was held on the ongoing construction projects held at the university: remodeling of the library, building of apartments, preparation for a new College of Business building and upgrades to the Biology department.

“The upgrade features two biology and two chemistry labs,” said the informational video played at the convocation. “Five biology research labs and fifteen offices.”

The remodel of Harden Hall is the oldest project and is on schedule to open just in time for the winter semester at NMU. One of the major features of the new library is the grand staircase. The Biology Department had its own remodel which is nearing completion and will hold its ribbon cutting during Homecoming Week.

“Its at 2:30 on Sept. 18 and is apart of Homecoming,” said Biology Department head Jill Leonard. “So you can come and check out our new facilities.”

The initial stages for two apartment complexes on Presque Isle Avenue have been going smoothly but construction has yet to start.

“Construction is looking to start next spring,” said the video presentation. “It is looking to finish by 2027.”

The College of Business building is in the earliest stages of the projects and is expected to start next year.
