Literary nonprofit calls for submissions to notable book list
MARQUETTE — The Upper Peninsula Publishers and Authors Association is accepting submissions for the Upper Peninsula Notable Books List, which recognizes books that capture the spirit, history, or people of the Upper Peninsula.
The U.P. Notable Books List honors books that meaningfully contribute to the cultural and literary landscapes of the U.P. through setting, subject matter, or authorship. Previous recipients of the award have included notable works that illuminate the U.P.’s rich cultural heritage, natural beauty, and vibrant communities since 2020. It’s the signature initiative of UPPAA, a nonprofit dedicated to supporting writing across the U.P.
Authors, publishers and literary agents are able to submit titles for consideration. Eligible titles must have been published between November 1, 2024 and November 1, 2025. All genres are welcome, including fiction, nonfiction, poetry, memoir, and children’s literature. There is no strict U.P. residency requirement for authors, but it is helpful for the panel to have the author’s involvement with the U.P. clarified in the book itself or in a cover letter. Submissions will be evaluated by a panel of independent judges based on literary merit, regional significance, and overall quality. The submission deadline is November 15, 2025.
UPPAA asks that submissions send two copies of printed books to the following address:
U.P. Notable Books
5145 Pontiac Trail
Ann Arbor, MI 48105
Winners of the competition will be announced in January 2026. Ten titles will be selected across genres, including adult and children’s categories. Corresponding authors will be invited to appear on the U.P. Notable Books Club throughout the calendar year and interact with readers across Michigan.
