Police seeking witnesses to fatal traffic accident

CHOCOLAY TOWNSHIP — The Chocolay Township Police are asking for the public’s help in finding witnesses to a fatal traffic crash that occurred on M-28 Monday.

At approximately 12:25 p.m. Monday, there was a traffic accident on M-28 near Nagelkirk’s, police said. Chocolay Township police are seeking any eyewitnesses to the accident to aid in the investigation.

According to Chocolay Township police Chief Anthony Carrick, Chocolay Township police were called to the scene of the crash, which involved two cars. Officers, fire and EMS took life saving measures for the driver of one of the vehicles, but the driver was declared dead on scene. The driver of the second vehicle had minor injuries. The roadway was shut down while an accident investigation was conducted.

Chocolay Township police were assisted on scene by Chocolay Township fire, Marquette County Sheriff’s Office, Michigan State Police and UPHS-Marquette. Chocolay Township would also like to extend a special thank you to the numerous citizens that stopped and gave aid.
