Notice of intent to file lawsuit levied at NMU claiming discrimination

Christine Greer

MARQUETTE – A former dean at Northern Michigan University, Dr. Christine Greer, has filed a letter of intent to sue NMU for alleged age and sex discrimination by former president, Brock Tessman.

“Northern Michigan University is aware of the Notice of Intent filed by Dr. Greer,” Said Chief Marketing Officer, Derek Hall. “The University takes all reports of discrimination, harassment or retaliation seriously. In this case, the University engaged a third-party investigator to review the investigation and believes the inquiry was thoroughly conducted and was unbiased, fulsome and sincere. At the end of the process, the investigator did not make any findings and the University fully agrees with the determinations in the report. The University will not make further comment on the possibility of pending litigation, but is prepared to defend any litigation.”

The timing of this notice comes as Brock Tessman departs NMU and Marquette to start his presidency at Montana State University. Greer claims that Tessman let her go for an underqualified male replacement and that she was let go for the false reason of ‘performance issues.’
