MARQUETTE – Northern Michigan University student Jackson Gervasio, 21, from Sault Ste. Marie, died in an accident in Knoxville, Tennessee on Saturday, July 5. Gervasio was a construction management major heading into his senior year, NMU said in a report from Rhea Dever, vice president of People, Culture and Wellbeing.
“During his time at NMU, he was a member of the NMU Constructors student organization and volunteered at Women in Construction events,” said Dever. “This summer, he was completing an internship with Kokosing Construction in Virginia. His NMU faculty describe him as a ‘fantastic young adult, who was an energetic, fun-loving person who really enjoyed life.'”
NMU plans on honoring Gervasio by lowering the campus flag on a date of his family’s choosing. The campus will be notified prior to the event’s date.
“Our sympathies are with Jackson’s family, friends and those on campus who were close to him and who are now navigating this loss …,” said Dever. “If you are an NMU community member who needs support related to Jackson’s passing, please use the resources linked from the nmu.edu/wellbeing page.
