MSP Wakefield makes felony drug arrest, suspect arraigned

IRONWOOD — On Thursday, a trooper from the Michigan State Police post in Wakefield was on patrol and observed a subject he knew had a revoked driver’s license operating a motor vehicle on Hemlock Street near Cedar Street.

The trooper activated his patrol car’s emergency lights to initiate a traffic stop of the vehicle. The vehicle was very slow to stop. The vehicle came to an eventual slow rolling stop on West Ayer Street near King Street. It was approximately 300 feet from the Iron Belle Trail.

The trooper’s investigation resulted in suspected methamphetamine being located in the vehicle. The suspect was placed under arrest and lodged in the Gogebic County Jail.

On Friday, 35-year-old Andrew Mills was arraigned in the 98th District Court in Bessemer on one count of possession of methamphetamine, one count of possession of methamphetamine within 1,000 feet of a park and operating with a revoked driver’s license. His bond was set at $50,000 (10 percent allowed) with conditions.

MSP was assisted by Ironwood Public Safety Department, Gogebic County Sheriff’s Office and Iron County Sheriff’s Office.
