MARQUETTE — The Marquette Maritime Museum’s annual Lake Superior Day celebration is scheduled from 1-4 p.m. on Sunday at the museum grounds on the shore of Lake Superior.

This event is an opportunity for kids and families to learn about the history, conservation, ecology and regional importance of Lake Superior. There will be a variety of outdoor booths by local conservation and environmental organizations along with family-friendly activities.

Lake Superior Day, which began in Thunder Bay in the early 1990s, was started to celebrate the body of water that dominates and defines the region. Slowly, over the years, other communities followed with festivities of their own.

The goal at the Marquette Maritime Museum is to celebrate the lake while learning how to preserve and maintain it for the enjoyment of future generations, a news release stated.

This is a free outdoor event. If interested in a booth for the event, call 906-226-2006.

Justin Marietti can be reached at 906-228-2500, extension 545. His email address is jmarietti@miningjournal.net.

Starting at $3.23/week.
