MARQUETTE — The Michigan State Police has presented former Negaunee Regional Communications Center emergency dispatcher Tyler Woodke with a Professional Excellence Award in recognition of his outstanding service during a critical emergency in Houghton County on Saturday, Dec. 21. The award was presented at NRCC by Jonathon Whitford, MSP Regional Communications Center unit manager.

While on duty on Dec. 21, Woodke answered a 911 call from a woman reporting that her husband was experiencing a heart attack. Remaining calm and professional under pressure, he immediately initiated the emergency response and provided life-saving CPR instructions over the phone. The caller was able to perform CPR for several minutes before a MSP trooper arrived on scene with an AED. Within 12 minutes of the original call, the victim was reported to be breathing and had a pulse, an outcome that may not have been possible without Mr. Woodke’s composed and timely response.

Although no longer serving as an emergency dispatcher, Mr. Woodke continues his dedication to public service and is currently attending Northern Michigan University’s Police Academy as he pursues a career in law enforcement.

“On behalf of the Michigan State Police, it is an honor to recognize your perseverance, commitment, and dedication with this Award of Professional Excellence. Please accept my personal thanks and appreciation for your service,” said Capt. Liz Rich, Commander, Intelligence Operations Division in a letter of commendation to Mr. Woodke.

The MSP commends Mr. Woodke for his exceptional performance and wishes him continued success in his law enforcement career.

Starting at $3.23/week.
