Annual races invite runners to check out the city
MARQUETTE — The Queen City Running Company will be hosting two races at the end of July, taking runners along the lakeshore and throughout the city of Marquette.
The Queen City Half Marathon and the Breakwater 5K are part of QCRC’s Run the U.P. Challenge Series, which vectors runners all across the Upper Peninsula to participate in races that test their endurance and ambition. The half marathon and 5K will both take place on July 26, a little over halfway through the series.
The Queen City Half Marathon, presented by Embers Credit Union, starts and ends in downtown Marquette, kicking off at 8:05 a.m. on July 26 at 130 W. Baraga Ave. Registration is available now and costs $75 per person, with prices increasing after July 12. It includes unique 906-themed shirts, HALF medals, goodie bags and a rose for every HALF finisher. The time limit for the half marathon is three hours and 30 minutes and the race will include six fully-stocked aid stations.
The Breakwater 5K, presented by the Ore Dock Brewing Company, will take place at 8 a.m. on the July 26 and serves as a fast out-and-back style course. With registration, participants get shirts and finisher medals and if you win the race and break the course record in the process, you will win the $400 cash pot that’s been gathering since the last course records were set in 2021. A post-race party will be held following the race completions with music and a few food trucks.
Registration can be done online at runsignup.com/Race/MI/Marquette/QUEENCITYHALFMARATHONAND5K. Prices for the adult QCHM and the Breakwater 5K will be raised after July 12, so participants are encouraged to sign up sooner rather than later.
More information about each race and the prizes can be found online at queencityhalfmarathon.com.
