ATHELSTANE — One is dead after a single ATV crash took place on Saturday.

Marinette County Sheriff Randy Miller reported that at 5:30 p.m. on Saturday, Marinette County Dispatch received a report of a single ATV crash that happened on the ATV trail system off of Benson Lake Road. It was reported that the ATV had rolled over.

The investigation indicates that an ATV operated by 55-year-old Michael W. Labree of Gilberts, Illinois was traveling east down an ATV trail east of Benson Lake Road when he failed to negotiate a curve and rolled over. Labree, who was wearing a helmet, was ejected from the ATV and sustained fatal injuries.

The crash remains under investigation by the Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources, the Marinette County Sheriff’s Office, and the Marinette County Medical Examiner’s Office. Also assisting at the scene were members of the Athelstane Fire Department, Silver Cliff Rescue and Aurora Medical Center – Bay Area EMS.
