Regional Independence Day events set (main story)

MARQUETTE — Regional Independence Day celebrations are slated all over Superiorland, no matter what neck of the woods you find yourself in. A roundup of events is as follows:

BARAGA

The 2025 Baraga County Lumberjack Days will hold events on Thursday, July 3 and Friday, July 4. For a full slate of events, visit www.baragalumberjackdays.com/schedule.

ISHPEMING

The Daryl Champion kids bike parade will like up at 9:30 a.m. on Saturday, July 5. The community parade will begin at 10:30 a.m. that day. Following the parade, a community picnic will be held at Al Quaal Recreation Area, where the fireworks will be held at dusk.

Also on Saturday, July 5, the Firecracker 5K fun run and 1K walk will be held at the Al Quaal Recreation Area. Registration is from 7-8 a.m., and the race begins at 8:15 a.m. Racers can register online at ishpeming4th.com.

The Ishpeming alumni softball tournament will be from July 3-5, and the Westwood alumni softball tournament will be from July 4-7.

MICHIGAMME

There will be a community picnic on Thursday, July 3 in the park on the shore of Lake Michigamme (across the highway from Mount Shasta). Swamp Berry Moonshine will provide music from 7-11 p.m. with fireworks at dusk. No boats are allowed in the bay after 7:30 p.m. for safety reasons.

On Friday, July 4, the Michigamme parade starts at 11 a.m. Following the parade, concessions, races and games will be held at the park. After the races end, the free kids carnival will begin.

NEGAUNEE

Negaunee’s annual Pioneer Days will be held from July 5-12 this year. Irontown hosted events are as follows:

Thursday, July 10
Pioneer Princess Pageant, 7 p.m. at the Negaunee High School Auditorium
July 5-13

Saturday, July 12

Irontown fun run and walk, 8:30 a.m. at 141 Rail St. Entry fee is $15 per person.

The Pioneer Days parade will begin at 11:30 a.m., and lineup begins at 10:30 a.m. at the Negaunee Senior Center. Following the parade, there will be music in the park from 2-7 p.m., and the Negaunee fireworks display will begin at dusk over Teal Lake.

GWINN

Gwinn will kick off its Independence Day festivities with a street dance at Peter Nordeen Park on Thursday, July 3, hosted by the Forsyth Township Fire Department. On Friday, July 4, there will be a parade including a kids bike parade. Kids can decorate their bikes and arrive at Gilbert Elementary School at 9 a.m. for lineup and the parade will start at 10 a.m., running from Gilbert Elementary to Gwinn High School. Following the parade at 11 a.m., there will be games, food and activities in the Peter Nordeen Park hosted by the Forsyth Township Fire Department. A fireworks display will begin at dusk at the nearby baseball fields.
