ISHPEMING — The Ishpeming Carnegie Public Library has announced that its annual Summer Reading Program will begin on Tuesday. This year’s summer reading theme is “Color Our World.”

“The (Summer Reading Program) is a great way for kids to stay engaged in both reading and fun activities throughout the summer with an added bonus of the chance to win prizes,” said Nicole Johnson, librarian at the Ishpeming Carnegie Public Library.

Johnson said that the program is open to all ages. Kids and teens can register downstairs in the children’s area and get a reading log, a goodie bag and a free book to start the reading journey. Adults can pick up review sheets, a free book, and enjoy some refreshments on the main floor of the library.

The program is an eight week reading challenge running from June 10 to Aug. 9. Individuals can pre-register for the challenge online by downloading the Beanstack app or visiting ishpeminglibrary.beanstack.org. Participants are entered for prizes by logging their reading, writing reviews, and attending library programs.

In addition to the reading challenge, the library has a lineup of programs happening throughout the summer, including an author visit with Tim Schulz at 5:30 p.m. on Wednesday, June 18, as the library was selected to be a stop for the Michigan Notable Books Tour this year.

Johnson said that anyone who cannot make it to the kickoff event on June 10 can register any time this summer — but the earlier a person registers, the more chances they’ll have to win prizes.

Starting at $3.23/week.
