Death being investigated

MARINETTE COUNTY, Wis. – The Wisconsin Department of Justice Division of Criminal Investigation is conducting a death investigation in the town of Grover, Marinette County, Wis. that occurred Wednesday, police said.

According to a press release from Marinette County Sheriff Randy Miller, at about midnight, a Marinette County deputy initiated a traffic stop near the intersection of County Road B and Poplar Ridge Lane in the Town of Grover, Wis. Upon contacting the occupants of the vehicle, the deputy observed a subject in the driver’s seat who appeared to be ingesting a substance. The subject was taken into custody and became unresponsive shortly thereafter, the release said.

EMS was contacted, and law enforcement and EMS attempted life saving measures. The subject was transported to a nearby hospital where the subject was pronounced deceased.

The release stated that DCI is leading the investigation and is being assisted by a DCI crime response specialist. All involved law enforcement are fully cooperating with DCI during this investigation.

DCI is continuing to review evidence and determine the facts of this incident and will turn over the investigative reports to the Marinette County District Attorney’s office when the investigation concludes, the release noted.
