MARQUETTE — From 8-11 a.m. Saturday, the D.J. Jacobetti Home for Veterans will be hosting its first ever pancake breakfast fundraiser, located in the Jacobetti back parking lot at 425 Fisher St., in Marquette.

“In my mind, it is the perfect way to celebrate Flag Day and the U.S. Army’s 250th birthday by celebrating the incredible veterans of Jacobetti and raising funds to enrich their lives,” said Sarah Johnson, volunteer and donations coordinator at Jacobetti.

The breakfast will include pancakes, sausage, bacon, fruit, juce and coffee. Suggested donation is $10, and funds raised will go towards the Jacobetti charitable support fund.

“The Charitable Support Fund funds life enrichment and quality of life-enhancing opportunities for members of the homes, including special life experiences, events, community outings and more,” said Johnson. “It funds picnics, sporting event tickets, live music, our member carnival, therapy equipment, special therapeutic programming, movie tickets, pizza parties and more. While state and federal funds pay the utilities, salaries, bills and the like, it is the generosity of the community through the Charitable Support Fund that makes Jacobetti a special place for Upper Peninsula Veterans and their loved ones.”

Along with the pancake breakfast, American Legion Post 44 of Marquette is running a raffle to directly purchase specialized chairs and entertainment items for residents of the home. Tickets for that raffle will be on sale for $5 at the breakfast, and prizes include a branches of military fire ring, a one-night stay at the Island Resort and Casino and a D.J. Jacobetti gift basket.

“The Marquette and surrounding communities have always been amazing supporters of our veterans, and we want to thank everyone for their contributions to the home,” said Johnson. “This (Saturday), we hope to see you at our pancake breakfast!”
