New superintendent in Negaunee

Andy Skewis

NEGAUNEE — The Negaunee Public Schools Board of Education picked a new superintendent of schools at its meeting Tuesday, unanimously selecting Andy Skewis as the next superintendent.

After several months of working with the Michigan Association of School Boards on the candidate selection process, two finalists were interviewed during the regular board of education meeting on Tuesday. The unanimous decision reflects the panel’s confidence in its selection and establishes a positive framework for this change of leadership, according to a public announcement from the board.

“Andy brings a deep understanding of the values, culture and needs of our community to the helm from being a long-standing employee, proud parent of two NHS graduates and alumnus himself,” the board announcement noted. “He has a strong foundation of professional experiences and relationships that will support his new educational leadership role. In addition, he understands the importance of maintaining strong academic standards and adapting to the evolving needs of the students our district serves.”

Skewis, who will officially take over as superintendent of Negaunee Public Schools later this summer after current superintendent Dan Skewis retires, has been an employee of NPS for the past 25 years, serving in various roles within the district, including coach, teacher, mentor and his current administrative position as the middle school assistant principal/athletic director.

Starting at $3.23/week.
