Marquette Planning Commission approves new GMC dealership project
MARQUETTE – The Marquette City Planning Commission unanimously approved the plan for a new GMC dealership facility in the city during its Tuesday evening meeting.
The planning commission gave the go-ahead for the new 35,000 square-foot facility to be built in the city at the intersection of McClellan Ave. and U.S. 41, the site where the old Value Host Motor Inn hotel was located, across from Jeffery’s Restaurant.
The new facility will replace the current GMC dealership in Marquette, which is currently located at 919. W. Baraga Ave.
Plans for the new dealership include an expanded showroom, expanded service bays, technician workstations and other vehicle-focused areas, with a customer lounge, Wi-Fi and digital information kiosks for customers.
According to a memo from Gries Architechtural Group, the designers of the facility, the project is focused on environmental responsiblity.
“The proposed GMC dealership in Marquette, MI has been designed with a strong emphasis on environmental responsibility, sustainability and community consideration,” the memo reads. “In accordance with local zoning and land use regulations, every effort has been made to confine and mitigate environmental nuisances such as noise, vibration, smoke, dust, odors and glare on-site to the maximum extent possible.”
No firm plans to start construction on the project have been announced, but the owner of the dealership had previously said they had aimed to finish the project by 2026.
